Your Next Read | Love & Other Words

This was a really cute romance by Christina Lauren. It had a couple of big surprises in there, so it wasn’t completely predictable, and it was a quick read – I read it in just a couple of nights and really struggled to put it down.

Macy Sorenson is a new pediatric resident, thinking about planning her wedding to a man who doesn’t require her to give her heart fully to him. But when she runs into Elliot, her first love, the bubble she’s built for herself comes dangerously close to bursting. Elliot was the only person in Macy’s life who managed to open up her heart after her mother died. They shared a love of books and retreated into a world of their own, surrounded by books. But he ruined it all on the same night he told her he loved her.

The book is told in alternating timelines, past and present. In the past timeline, we see Macy and Elliot’s relationship grow from bookish friends to two teens who have really deep feelings for one another. In the present, they have become strangers up until their chance meeting. Eventually, they come to realize what their estrangement was all about, and decide whether they can reconcile their pasts with the way they feel in the present.

A beautiful love story about second chances, young love, and the power that a real, deep love holds over us. I’d definitely recommend.

xoxo
