Your Next Read | The Rose Code

A World War II novel by Kate Quinn, The Rose Code follows three women who become codebreakers during the war.

Osla, a debutante who has been seeing Prince Phillip of Greece (yes that Prince Phillip), has joined the war effort to prove she’s not just another silly debutante. Mab is on a mission to find a husband and bring herself out of poverty, and Beth is a girl who has lived under the iron grip of her mother and been made to feel useless for her entire life. They form an unlikely friendship, with the secrecy of Bletchley Park and all that they do there tying them together. But war, loss, and secrecy tear them apart.

A few years after the war’s end, a mysterious letter brings the three friends-turned-enemies together again. They find that they must break one last code to uncover the truth about a traitor who was in their midst in their time at Bletchley Park.

This piece of historical fiction has it all – friendship, romance, death, and so much more. I loved the ending of this book, but I have to admit the beginning dragged a little for me and it was hard to get into. Once I made it through the first quarter of the book I think it picked up for me. The characters were well-developed and I loved their personalities. I thought the traitor ended up being a predictable choice to me, but it was still well done. Another good epic WWII novel that I would recommend.
