5 Things You Need to Know About Legoland

The rooms are truly designed for families.

Families with 3 children, rejoice – a hotel designer finally thought of you! We stayed at the new Pirate Island Hotel, which is attached to the Legoland Hotel (you actually check-in in the same place). The rooms at LEGOLAND Hotel all have bunk beds AND a trundle bed at the bottom of the bunks! The bunks are in a separate area of the hotel room – it’s not large, but they have their own little area, along with a TV and a small station filled with LEGOs for them to play. Toilets also have a kid seat built in, and there is a stepstool in the bathroom. All I could think when I saw it was, “Clearly a parent worked on this design.”

Mini City is a sight to behold.

We’ve been to Legoland twice now, and Mini City, LEGO replicas of major US cities, is still my favorite attraction. It’s pretty impressive to see some of these structures – Grand Central Station, Little Havana, and The White House made entirely out of LEGOs. The kids love trying to identify the cities and finding the interactive parts of the buildouts.

Don’t expect it to be like that other theme park.

If you’re expecting Disney or are used to Disney, reframe that. This is a much smaller operation, with smaller hours, shorter lines, and less staff. There are fewer dining options, and it is overall much easier to navigate. There are pros and cons to all of it. I’m not sure if this is always the case, but while we were there, many food kiosks were not open, and multiple rides were closed or operating at a lower capacity (due to broken seats/parts/etc). A lot of the rides were definitely in need of some TLC.

LEGOLAND has an age threshold.

Not that kids of certain ages aren’t allowed in the park, but the appeal is definitely for a certain age range. We didn’t see any families with teens (unless they also had younger siblings). It’s also not the best for very very young children. I’d likely say ages 3-10 would be the ones to benefit the most from a visit here, but you also know your children best!

Breakfast is included!

One of the perks of staying in the hotel is that your breakfast is included. At the Pirate Island Hotel, the family-style breakfast was brought out in a cast-iron pan and you could serve yourself from there. You could also have fruit or request separate omelettes. I was scared it would be a very wasteful way of having breakfast, but truthfully we ate the majority of what was brought out to us.

I will say that the price tag of Legoland did give me a bit of sticker shock. We splurged because it was Caleb’s birthday gift and we knew he would love the hotel, but I found it to be quite pricey. The room was very clean and had some great amenities, but still steep!
