5 Things to Do While Your Kids Are Home on Christmas Break

Since Christmas lands on a Saturday this year, our kids have a whole week at home before the Christmas craziness truly unfolds. I had planned on doing a few activities, but I want to make sure I have a few things to keep them busy in the coming days. Here are a few things I’ve come up with, and a few things you can do with your own kids to keep them entertained this week (aside from iPads and kicking them out the door to play outside).

Make Christmas Ornaments

A dear friend dropped off a gift for the kids, and it was a kit to make DIY cinnamon ornaments. The kids loved this activity and it occupied a decent amount of time. The house also smelled AMAZING while the ornaments baked. Here’s an easy recipe.

Make Your Own Polar Express

Didn’t grab tickets to a Polar Express in your city in time? Caleb’s class did this at school and I thought it was a fun ideas. Gather up your Amazon boxes, let them decorate them and line them up like a train. They can throw pillows and blankets in there and sit inside the boxes as if they were on the train.  Turn on The Polar Express and make some hot chocolate – and you’ve got an hour and a half worth of entertainment.

Make Magic Reindeer Food

I had never done this, but my friends at Flik Flak sent us a cute little gift to make reindeer food! We’ll be doing it on Christmas Eve so the reindeer can find our house that night. 😉

Decorate Wrapping Paper

Put your kids to work and add an extra special touch to your gift wrapping this year. Use brown or white paper, roll it out on the table and let them decorate. You can let them use their fingerprints to make Christmas lights, use old cookie cutters to create outlines, or cut out shapes from old sponges. Check out some more ideas here.

Make a Popsicle Stick Craft

This is a little more involved, but I thought this was a really cute idea!
