Your Next Read | The Maidens
If you like psychological thrillers, this is up your alley. By the author of The Silent Patient, Alex Michaelides, this book follows troubled group therapist Mariana.
There has been a murder at Cambridge University, her alma mater, where her niece Zoe currently attends school. Mariana is convinced that professor Edward Fosca is guilty. Fosca is a charismatic and well-loved professor of Greek Tragedy at the university, and is truly well-loved by faculty and students alike – particularly one group of female students known as the Maidens.
When Zoe’s friend, a member of The Maidens, is murdered, Mariana focuses her energy on proving it was Fosca, despite his alibi. But why would the professor target one of his students?
When another body is found, Mariana’s obsession with proving that Fosca is guilty spirals out of control and threatens to destroy her credibility. But she is determined to stop this killer, even if it means risking everything – including her own life.
This was a thriller that had me on the edge of my seat while I was reading it. There is a huge twist at the end, and I was actually very surprised and didn’t see it coming! A good read, but it’s not light at all.
