Your Next Read | Books I Haven’t Posted About
I’m currently on book 26 of this year (my goal for the year was 21 books, so I’m proud of myself for surpassing that goal!). It’s hard to get a review in every time I finish a book, but here are some of the ones I haven’t gotten around to reviewing. The titles of each book are the links to their Amazon page. That’s an affiliate link for me, which means I’ll make a teeny tiny commission if you purchase using my links, but you don’t pay anything more.
- Fifty Words for Rain
- The first book I read in 2021. This one started out a little slow for me, but in the end it was a good book. It’s long, it spans years and years, and it’s involved. It includes some hard-to-read scenes about abuse, so definitely read deeper if you are triggered by that. I loved learning a little more about Japanese culture, though – so if that is of interest to you, you might enjoy it!
- Anxious People
- This book was like someone took every anxious thought I ever had and put it all into a book. I laughed and I cried while reading it. It entertained. Not one of my favorites ever but I enjoyed it and found I related on so many levels to so many of the characters.
- Bridgerton Series
- I’m just going to say that this is smut. I enjoyed it but the books were very predictable, especially by third one. I did enjoy getting to know all the Bridgertons and I’m not even sure I have a favorite because there are so many of them, but if you want light and easy and spicy, these are a good fit. This was also a really easy way to help me reach my reading goal this year! lol.
- The Art of Deception
- Nora Roberts never fails me. This is about an art collector and a heist and it’s got romance woven in. If you’ve read any of Roberts’ latest books, this is one of them – a lot of mystery and backstory woven into her typical romances.
- The Paris Library
- Loved this one. It’s historical fiction and about a library in Paris during WWII. Heartbreaking but always a good reminder of how important it is to keep our humanity in hard times.
- Malibu Rising
- Liked it, didn’t love it. Three siblings who are raised by their alcoholic mom and abandoned by their rock star dad. Lots of themes of finding yourself, beating the odds despite them being stacked against you, and learning to forgive. I wanted to smack Nina on the head a few times and just tell her to get with the program.
- Then She Was Gone
- A thriller. This one was bone chilling. When I got to the end, my jaw dropped.
- The Turnout
- This was the pick for Jenna’s Book Club last month and I hopped on the bandwagon. I thought I’d like it because it was about a ballet studio, but I didn’t. The writing was choppy, there were some very odd relationships, and I finished it because I was invested, but not because I loved it.
- Beach Read
- Okay LOVED this one. Same author as People We Meet on Vacation, it’s a romance. But the main character kind of reminds me of myself in terms of always thinking of romance. After her dad dies, she goes to stay in a house he had with his mistress. She finds solace in an unexpected blast from her past who lives next door, and faces the demons her father left behind.
